Hi,

Looking for some help
Have been tasked to setup a new collection of devices (Servers) to see which windows updates are installed and missing
These updates should not install on this device at all and only be in reporting.
The WSUS / SUP is set up correctly
The reporting server is set up correctly.

However I am a bit on a newbie with SCCM and never used the updates / reporting before and wasn't sure how set to proceed next.
(Agent is installed on the servers)
Using SQL Server 2014 reporting service

Any guides or any assistance on how to configure the update groups to not download updates but report on the server only
and then set up in SQL server 2014 reporting service so we can subscribe to weekly reports

Why do you want the SU group for? The built-in reports will tell you what SU are missing without a SU Group. This does assume that the servers are reporting to CM their SU Status.

Thanks for the reply Garth, we wanted the Software update group, so we could specific the type of updates, and thought this was the way to do it, this is probably incorrect then?

It is the first time I have ever looked at reporting, is their a specific built-in report that would be suitable to run at all?

There is No wrong way but Some of the built-in reports might not work they way you want them too. So..
The best thing to do is explorer the existing built in reports. See which reports you like and which you don't.

Thank you so much, I have noticed when running the reports, the detection status is showing unknown for the PC's I want to query, is there a good article / suggest how to get the detection working?
I presume this is CM reporting in SU status.

There is no catch all for unknown SU scan status. The two biggies are the computer are offline, or GPOs are interfering the SU scan. At the end of the day you need to look at each computer one by one and as you fix someone for one it will likely solve it for another.
