Hi

I have an issue with one of my clients where they had an old Config Mgr 2012 environment set up with a CAS and 2 primary sites. Under the primary sites they had a few secondary sites and distribution points.
They were advised by Microsoft that due to the size of the environment they should only be running a single stand alone primary site (about 23000 end points with the config mgr client installed).
They created a new stand alone primary site environment and decommissioned the old one. This was done about a year and a half ago before I took over support for the environment 5 months ago.

The issue I am having is that one of the distribution points from the old environment was not removed correctly and as such is still installed on the distribution point server. I have tried to install a distribution point for the new environment on this box but it fails, so I have tried to uninstall it. Removing it through the console does nothing, I have to assume because the server has never actually been installed in the new environment.

Is there a way that I can uninstall this distribution point directly from the server it is installed on? I have already checked the database and there is no reference to this DP that I can find.

Is there a way that I can uninstall this distribution point directly from the server it is installed on? - I believe the DP role on remote server wasn't uninstalled correctly. The old DP still holds the DP content and role. Why not reinstall the OS on DP and then install the DP role ?.

Re-installing the OS unfortunately is not an option. The DPs in this client are on file servers that are constantly in use and they cannot give me the downtime needed to re-install the OS.

That would be an ideal solution but this client site only has a single physical server.
I have around 200 DP's in this environment and this is the only one that wasn't cleaned up correctly when they decommissioned the old environment. I starting to think it might be easier just to point this client site to another DP and advise the client as such. I have been looking for a solution for this for about 3 weeks now.

"it might be easier just to point this client site to another DP" - it's a distribution point and not a configmgr client agent. So you cannot point to another DP. As the old setup is uninstalled, the remote DP is left with old configurations. Can you check what are the sccm related services running on that DP from services console ?.

I'm onsite at the client again tomorrow and will have a look.
I did check the registry and all the keys, etc. are still in place but I will check the services when I'm on site again.

Thanks for the help in the meantime.
