PENDING Unable to install WSUS role on server 2012 R2

Hi All,

I am panning to configure SUP role my test infra.

As per the pre-requisite list i am trying to install WSUS role on Server 2012R2 and failing to configure it. When i tried to check the Wsussetup.log, its throwing the below error
"Failed to CoCreate CLSID_MSAdminBase (Error 0x80080005: Server execution failed)"

Please check the log file attached and help me.

Server OS: 2012 R2
SCCM Version: 2012
configuration: only one Primary site and SQL 2012 both are running on same server.

May i know how are you installing the WSUS ?. Using a downloaded setup file or via server manager ?.

Error MWUSSetup WSUS is outdated. But this will not block setup (Error 0x00000000: The operation completed successfully.)

Thanks for your reply.

I am installing Wsus role through server manager roles and features.By ignoring the error i proceeded further by installing SUP role. While installing SUP role i used to get following error message "Installation Failed. Error Code: 136" in supsetup.log

I googled it and found that Wsus version should be 3.0 or above and suggested to install 2 patches (KB2720211 & KB2734608 to update to wsus 3.0 sp2), which is applicable for 2008.

Here i am using 2012 R2 which comes with WSUS 6.0. So please suggest on this.

could you upload the supsetup.log ?. I need to see the lines before you see error code 136.

Installing the SMSWSUS
Supported WSUS Server version is not installed. Please install WSUS 3.0 SP1 Server or above.
Installation Failed. Error Code: 136

I have done many WSUS installs on server 2012 R2 and never experienced this issue. This could be an issue with the server OS or something wrong while you are installing the WSUS. Could you try installing the WSUS on another 2012 R2 server and let me know if same error occurs ?.

Hi Prajwal,

Earlier I did Wsus installations multiple times with the same Server OS which i am having. and now when i am trying it is throwing the error. i tried 3 times and had same issue. Hope as you said my iso file may got corrupted. please help me with ISO files of 2012R2 and SCCM.
Anyhave i will try once again and let you know

Try installing WSUS on a test VM (could be lab setup). ISO file of 2012 R2 is available for download as eval version here.

I tried with the ISO file you have shared. While installing SCCM, under prerequiste check I am receving an warning "WSUS SDK ON SITE SERVER" I have attached the screenshot ]. Will this impact anything.


I ignored it and proceeded with SCCM Installation. I have installed WSUS role successfully and when i tried to install SUP it is throwing same error messagge "Supported WSUS Server version is not installed". Attached the log file of SUPsetup. and I did find wsussetup log under temp folder, but it installed.
