I have a new SCCM server build Version 2002 on Server 2019 and it has a distribution point on that server and everything works fine.
But I want to add a distribution point to a remote server and it just will not install, it gets so far it will create the SCCMContentLib and SMS_DP$ folders on the required server but that's all.
The fact it can create the folders tells me the main site server can communicate with the distribution point server.
I have tried all the obvious things like DNS, I can ping nslookup unc and even RDP from server to server.
I'm at a bit of a loss and I'm going in circles now.
If anyone can point me at a good troubleshooting guide i would be very grateful.
Thanks

Solution
I usually install the DP role and wait for 30 minutes and let it complete the process. In your log file I don't see any major errors. Enable PXE and Multicast later and just install the DP role for now.
I have been struggling with this for over a week so a wiped the DP and did a clean install of windows server 2019

Thanks very much for taking the time to look at this, I really do appreciate all your hard work and the guides you created made possible to install SCCM on the primary server..
I will give it the rest of the day and check it again in the morning.

Once again Thanks

Hi
I left the server over night and it seems to be in the same state.
I have checked \Monitoring\Overview\Distribution Status\Distribution Point Configuration Status and the only difference now is IIS showing as working.

Well I left this for a couple of days wile I worked on another job.
I have just come back to it and its working ??
The only thing I can think of is over the weekend the packages transferred successfully due to the WAN being quiet.
it may just be a case of it takes a long time and I did not appreciate just how long it would take.

Hi Yes but I'm really not sure why ?
I honestly didn't expect it to take that long and I have another 5 more DP's to add.
I'm guessing this will take a lot longer than I hoped.

Just as an update, I added another DP and that also failed in the same way but after leaving it over night it was working and connected when i checked it in the morning.
I'm using Windows Server 2019 Standard and SCCM version 2002.
I will just have to be patient when adding the rest of the DP's.
