Hi Guys,

I have recently rebuilt our test environment at work (mainly as a learning process but also in leu of upgrading the production SCCM) and all has gone well until i try to add the client to soem test machines.
I can do a basic manual add client, which i see removign the old client and deploying the new client files in the windows>ccmsetup folder but thats where everything ends.
I can check the Config manager on the device which only shows 2 Actions (machine policy retrieval and user policy retrieval) which is about 8 short of what should be there.
Using the DMT tool on the SCCM server i get "Not Registered" for the Device im trying to connect to, is this the problem? If so how do i Register the device?

I have looked and even bought a book recommended here to try and resolve this issue with no success thus far, any help appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Check the ccmsetup.log file located on the client in "%WINDIR%\ccmsetup\Logs" if there are any error when installation the new SCCM client.
If the client is correctly installed and the SMS Host Agent service is UP, check LocationServices.log file in "%WINDIR%\CCM\Logs", what is the result?

HI There,

Thanks for your reply.

I have added the LocationService.log here, i am struggling to understand anything, been at this 3 days now!

Do you have the same issue just in some clients or all of these?
Have you extended the Active Directory Schema and created the System Management container with giving rights to the Site Server account?

HI thanks for your reply.

So there is only one client (apart from the grouptestsql etc). I am testing this on 1 laptop which is in the domain.
On the laptop the Site system server account is in the administrators group.
Schema has been extended.
System Management container has the appropriate site server accounts.

The devices show up and are discovered however in the general info section for the device there is NO information.
Also on the device itself, configuration manager properties there is no info in the Site, network or cache tabs.

If you try to install the client with the following command line:

CCMSetup.exe /mp:FQDN_of_MP /logon SMSSITECODE=SLP

(replace FQDN_of_MP by your Management Point FQDN)

Then check the ccmsetup.log file, once the client is reinstalled, check again the LocationServices.log.

BTW, check the hosts file located on "%windir%\System32\Drivers\etc\" if there are something configured.
