I recently upgraded the server that has our AAD connect from 2012 R2 to 2016. I downloaded the newest version of Connect and now I am having an issue with the upgrade. I didn't export the configuration from AAD Connect tool as you have outlined here (https://www.prajwaldesai.com/steps-to-upgrade-azure-ad-connect/). I didn't see that until I had already upgraded. When I try to run AAD Connect, it wants to continue the upgrade, but I keep getting an error stating that upgrade cannot proceed because the Azure Active Directory connector (b891884f-051e-4a83-95af-2544101c9083) is missing. We were experiencing issues with password synchronization to AAD from our On-Premise domain, but were still able to directory sync. Not being able to upgrade the AAD Connect in Windows 2012 R2 is the reason for the 2016 server upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a full backup that I restored to a new VM so that now my server is back the way that it was. (Server 2012 R2). Here is a screenshot of the version numbers. I am going to follow the steps in the link I listed above. Should I just move the AAD connect to a different newer server (2019)? If so, what would be the best practice for that?

I did not have the option to export settings in the version that is currently on the server, so I am going to install version 1.6.16.0 and then will try again.
