SOLVED Task Sequence issue Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001)

Hi Prajwal,

i am having an issue with OS deployment. I have followed your article on the subject but am having issues just before the task sequence i believe. The PXE boot works and gets thru till the message "Preparing network"appears, thereafter the machine reboots. I have tried this on a Vmware Vm and a physical machines, and ensured the appropriate network card drivers were injected, as i saw alot messages relating to the preparing network as a driver issue.

From the SMSTS.LOG, i can see the following lines which make me think its a task sequence issue.

Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001)
PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005
HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(dwError), HRESULT=80004005 (e:\nts_sccm_release\sms\client\tasksequence\tsmbootstrap\tsmbootstraputil.cpp,1459)

RegOpenKeyExW is unsuccessful for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence
RegOpenKeyExW is unsuccessful for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence


Hope you can help shed some light on this issue?

@Fred Anaman - Just wanted to know if this error is occurring for just one PC or for all deployments ?

Hi, this happened with all PCs. In the end it related to the configuration of ip helpers on the switch which wasnt working. AFter the switch to palo alto and some reconfiguration osd deployed started working. It seems the defined ip helpers on the cisco switch wasnt working.
