I'm pretty new with SCCM and have taken over some responsibility of making sure it works at my current job (my predecessor got it up and running with a contractor).

Right now, my focus is on our software update point not working correctly. We have a monthly synchronization set up to get new updates from Microsoft but machines cannot find the updates in both Windows Update or in Software Center even though they are in the software update catalog. This is problem #1.

Problem #2 is I have set up a cloud management gateway using eHTTP and have successfully deployed 1903 upgrades but Windows Update and WUAHandler show 0x8024401c as an error when updates are checked for. I'm assuming this is somewhat related to how messed up the SUP is.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I should start looking?

#1 you should sync to Microsoft everyday in case of Zero Day deployment, I think you are referring to Automatic Deployment Rule. I suggest you to check out Automatic Deployment Rule and the Software Update search criteria.

#2 make sure you setup boundary correctly for clients to get updates from CMG. I suggest you to check boundary and how to associate CMG with that boundary.
