We've set up a new Secondary site on a Hyper-V VM. It's communicating fine with Primary Site and packages are coming across just fine.

However, It will not allow my test VM client to PXE boot. It hangs on "downloading NBP file", then shuts down after about a minute or two.
The client trying to PXE boot is on the same Hyper-V host and vSwitch as the DP/MP (secondary site).
Checking SMSPXE, i get the following:

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wireshark was showing a lot of fragmentation until i enabled jumbo packets on the Secondary Site's vNIC, but the issue persisted. Still NBP file would not download.

I rescinded the jumbo packet change on MECMSS, andtried adding RamDisk Block & Window size regkeys as shown:

While this did enable the NBP (wdsmgfw.efi)file to download, afterward no more activity other than DHCPRequest/Acknowledege shows for a few cycles on wireshark, then the connectiontimes out. I've since disabled these as well, as you can see. I feel it may be masking a root cause.

If i disable PXE on this system and tell the VM to PXEfrom the primary site (helpers are there for redundancy), it will PXE boot fineand image completely.

I tried using the WDS responder service as well. I'mnot going to go deeper into how that went, but it will suffice to say it didn'twork any better. We simply don't use the WDS responder on our DPs, primary orother secondary sites.

Additionally...
When i set RamDiskTFTPBlockSize to 1456, it appears to download the NBP and i can see "end of file" in SMSPXE, indicating it has indeed downloaded. However, after some time of "proxyDHCP" req/ack going back and forth and finally giving up, I get Windows Deployment Services encountered an error: Error Code: 0x102

1697812219718.png
1697812277339.png

Then, the PXE flag has been tripped. Without this registry setting, the NBP never downloades, the PXE flag doesn't trip. I just see the error mentioned in the title of this forum thread, which appears to simply be a timeout of sorts.

The entire Secondary Site VM has been deleted & rebuilt once. The DP and MP roles have been completely removed and reinstalled on this second iteration. All the packages have been pushed to the site and validated, yet nothing seems to be helping.

Just if someone stumbles upon this topic. 0x102 usually is seen when the device already exists in the MECM database. Try to removing the device and then network boot it again.
