SOLVED SCCM Site Configuration Backup Error

Hi There,

I am facing issues in SCCM Site Backup. The error is as below. Request to resolve on PRIORITY as its not happening Since Long

After GatherWriterMetadata SMS Writer status = FAILED_AT_PREPARE_BACKUP. SMS_SITE_BACKUP 25-11-2019 16:04:29 12676 (0x3184)

Is sql server vss writer service running?. Run the command vssadmin list writers and let me know what you see.

Hi Prajwal, Thanks for your response.
Yes the service SQL Server VSS Writer is running on DB Server. My DB is in Cluster mode. Let me check with my DB Team for this command let u know ASAP.

Hi Prajwal,
When I changed the backup UNC path to Local Server and initiated Backup It worked!!!. We found that VSS is disabled of the Remote Server where the backup was targeted previously. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

That pretty much tells us why were we seeing the "ERROR: SQL Backup task failed. Error message - Error: Failed to create the backup folder \\bayan\SCCM DB Backup\VCMBackup\SiteDBServer"

In the past was the backup succesfull when the location was set to UNC path ?

I don't think so in the past it was Successful as i can see April 2019 Date, but for now we have set backup to Local Server UNC Path and it is running successfully.
According to you what is recommended for SCCM Backup ?

We are taking Backup in Local Drive and it is successfully completed on it's scheduled. Will resolve this case.

Hi Prajwal,
Please resolve this thread as well. You cannot take SCCM backup on the drive where VSS is disabled, hence we decided to take Backup on Local Drive where VSS is enabled. Since last 1 or 2 months backup is happening smoothly, please resolve this case.
