Hi All,

I have MECM 1910 installed. I am looking to apply patches with notifications for users to restart
Currently I have tested
Deploying patches which show in Software Centre and a notifications appears and goes
Once the deadline has been hit the patches install and then the Restart deadline appears before the machines auto restarts

My questions is when the updates are deployed and appear in software centre they dont auto install as they wait until the deadline appears. Is there anyway at this stage I can get the updates to install but not force any restarts until the deadline time ? I would like it if the clients would auto install patches before the deadline and keep prompting the user to restart.

At the moment if a user goes to software centre and clicks install they get the reminders
If the user ignores software centre until the deadline then they auto install and do the deadline settings until they auto restart

Thanks

Hi Marek

Thanks for the reply. I have tested this more and the "Software Changes are required by your IT department" notifications appears on the bottom right but then disappears.

The only time it then appears is if you restart or shutdown the machine, even then it only appears for 5 seconds.

Is there anyway to make this keep appearing so that the end users do not miss it. I thought upgrading to 1910 would allow this but it seems only to work on required applications.

Thanks

Under your Client Settings - add Computer Restart and it can display the temporary notification and restart dialog box.

Further to your question, if you want to get patches to install before deadline, deploy your ADR to a duplicate collection and on the deployment settings set up the deadline earlier (to whichever) and set the install on deadline outside of maintenance window (not restart) and suppress restart on Workstations just as a safeguard.

So you have one Software Update Group deployed to two collections, however one deployment has earlier deadline with force install but not restart. Your second one can have both force install and restart. ;)

Am currently doing the same for Servers. One collection of all Servers to do force install and second deployment just the force restart according to my maintenance window.

Thanks for the reply, I thought there is something in SCCM to control this but your idea of using duplicates is something i will try.

Thanks

another pointer is that you setup your ADR to run at the time you want your server to install updates and reboot. Eg, run the ADR at 1AM so the deadline will always be at 1AM.

Or, set your ADR to run at 3AM and have your maintenance window between 12.01AM - 4AM. This way, you are giving your servers 3 hours to install the updates and reboot before reaching the deadline at 3AM for FORCE Install and Reboot.

Hope it makes sense.
