Good Morning Everybody,

Been ready for a few weeks now and I am having issues trying to upgrade to the latest, I have read that I need to install the CU's first and the go from there but I am having issues downloading the CU's from the Microsoft Website. Am I going the correct path or not? Get all the hot fixes first and then continue the way up until the newest version. We will start deploying Windows 10 machines in our environment and I need them to connect to my sccm.

Thank you,

Hello All,

After further reading, I will go ahead and just install a new version of sccm 2019. My question is this: will I have to uninstall sccm 2012 and the clients on the computers in order for the new client (sccm 2019) install?

Thank you,

Hi,

You have two options:
  • In-place upgrade from SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 to SCCM Current Branch 1902 (using baseline media).
  • Install new SCCM Current Branch 1902 platform and migrate the clients from the old to the new, using also Side by Side Migration to move all collections/applications/settings...
BTW, SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 supports Windows 10 2015.

Hello Youssef,

Thank you very much for your response. Questions on option #2, can I install the new branch on the same server where 2012 resides? Will it cause any issues? Also, if I do the migration move, the clients will auto update to the new base line? I read that I won't be able to use the same name and code, is it true?

I am sure I will have more questions along the way!

Thank you,

No, you must install the new SCCM platform on a new server with a different FQDN, Sitecode...
For clients migration, either you deploy a VBscript to move the clients to the new platform or make an in-console client installation directly.
