PENDING Remote WSUS cannot Sync with SCCM 2012 R2

Hello All,

I am trying to sync my WSUS Version: 3.2.7600.226 with SCCM 2012 R2 Version 5.0.7958.1000 but I am getting sync failures and I am not sure how to resolve these failures. BTW the WSUS server was installed in the environment long before the SCCM server and they are on separate servers.

My questions are:
Do I need to install WSUS on the server that SCCM is on even though I will not be using it?
WSUS is using port 80 do I need to change that port to get sync working?
Why am I getting a "Support version not found when the minimum supported is 3.0 and I am at 3.2?

Looks like there is some proxy / firewall that is not allowing to sync. Why don't you use port 8530 and 8531, port 80 is used for http traffic.

If you already have WSUS on a remote server and you want WSUS to be the active SUP then add another Site System and add the SUP Role to it.

I had the network team open the following ports:
TCP - 80, 135, 443, 445, 1433, 3389
UDP – 135
I verified the ports are opened by Telneting to the WSUS server on that port and vice versus but still the SYNC fails.

This is the configuration that I am trying to achieve - WSUS server downloads Security,Critical & SCEP Definitions - I want the Site server (SCCM 2012 R2) to download from the WSUS server only the SCEP Definitions and then our Anti Malware Policy distributes to clients.

OK this is going to be long:
I installed another WSUS(b) server on the same server as SCCM (2012 R2) and configured it as a downstream WSUS server hence getting updates from the existing WSUS(a) server. I then configured the software update point component to look at itself (WSUS (b) server), and under classification selected "Definition Updates" and under products "Forefront Endpoint protection 2010". Now I am able to run a Sync and have it complete successfully!!! So now under Software Library "All Software Updates" I have 7 definitions. Prajwal since your the only one to answer, am I on the right track her, based on what has been previously written?
I want to deploy these to servers that don't have internet access and or those that do (optional) - I have already created a Software Update Group by following the article on this site. I also made a test collection with one server in it.
