Good afternoon,

I'm looking to update the OS on my primary site in order to upgrade my CM version to 1706 and then onto the latest build.

Currently running Server 2012 standard on the primary site

My question is, can I do an inplace upgrade from 2012 to 2016 or would I have to install Server 2012 R2 first and then go to 2016 if I wanted to?

Thanks for your insight!

Yes, you can upgrade your OS from 2012 to 2016 :

But what is your current version for SCCM & SQL?

It's ok, you can upgrade your Site Server to 1706 and then 1802. After any upgrade, I suggest to you to do a full backup (or VM Snapshot) of your Site and SQL Server.
