Hello everyone,

In our company we are finally about to switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10. There are around 4,000 devices in total.

It is planned that the new devices will be delivered to us with a finished basic image.

The basic image has of course not yet installed all of the "special software" that the individual previous client had.

With SCCM, is it possible to transfer the software or collections from the old client to the new client so that it can then be installed afterwards.

The idea would be that somewhere you can say this is the old client and this is the new client, please take over everything.

Has any of you made experiences in the directions and a solution for us.

I would be very grateful for all the tips!

Let me know what you think of this idea - For new laptops that arrive, you image it with Windows 10 and allow the basic applications to be installed through task sequence.

For computers running Windows 7, you upgrade it to Windows 10 using SCCM. When you do an in-place upgrade, the old apps should be still there. if not you can always make the software available for devices and allow users to install it from software center.

The old Windows 7 devices will be leased back; in this regard, it is not possible to carry out an in-place upgrade.

We would just like to have all the "Install" collections in which the old client is automatically transferred to the new client, so that the user or the administrator who swaps computers has as little effort as possible.

Lease returns are a pain. Luckily, we stopped doing that years ago, opting to purchase outright instead. Currently, I'm investigating a possible solution for an upcoming computer hardware refresh. It's called PCmover Enterprise (https://enterprise.laplink.com/). We aren't migrating from 7 to 10 (did that 2 years ago), but it seems suited for that too. I ran into a lot of challenges with in-place upgrades and I wish I had heard about it sooner.
