I'm not sure if this topic has been covered off before so apologies if this is a repeat.

Our site currently runs Configuration Manager 2012 R2 (no CU or SP) on a Windows 2008 R2 server & SQL server 2008 R2.

We want to upgrade the server OS, SQL and Configuration Manager to the following versions:
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- SQL Server 2014 or above
- Configuration Manager 2012 R2 1606 or above

I know Config Mgr 2012 R2 1606 is supported with SQL 2008 R2 & Server 2008 R2.

My question is what is the best way about achieving this? I know I can setup a new VM running the above and migrate but am worried about clients which don't necessarily connect regularly with the change of site code. Would I be better upgrading the current server to CFGMGR 2012 R2 1606 and then performing a backup / restore to a new Windows 2012 R2 server (with SQL 2008 R2) and then upgrade SQL?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

okay, instead of upgrading all the 3 products (SQL, WS, SCCM) why don't you setup a new SCCM infra with a new site code ?.
