I tried to start an offline upgrade off my ConfigMgr Server. The upgrade progress stucks with error 0x80004005. The problem is similar to https://www.prajwaldesai.com/fix-sccm-upgrade-error-80070005-install-files.
The upgrade process stops during installing files. With the serviceconnectiontool I imported 2403 upgrade package. The problem ist that the offline upgrade package was not complete. The redist files are missing for some reasons. The conclusion is the imported package is corrupt and will never come to a successfull upgrade of ConfigMgr to version 2403.
The question is how to remove the corrupt package from the ConfigMgr Update & Servicing panel und re-import a new functional package. The SCCM Update Reset Tool – CMUpdateReset.EXE Tool will not work while the corrupt package is already in post-installation mode.
Best regards

If the required files are missing, the installation should fail. What is the status of the update installation as of now?

The status is: the server is running in a undefined version status:
Version: 2403
Console version 5.2309.1113.1900
Site version: 5.0.9122.1000

The upgrade is stuck at the installing files step, and you may need expert assistance on this. I recommend reaching out to MS support.

Jochen, has there been any update from MS about this? I too use the offline upgrade and the update failed with the same info as you. I looked in the redist folder and it is empty. I am going to open a case as well but thought is ask. thanks

I opened a case by Microsoft and the gave me an sql-query to reset the version of cm to a lower version:
SELECT * from Sites
SELECT dbo.fnSetupFullVersion()
SELECT dbo.fnCurrentSiteVersion()
fnSetupFullVersion

USE [CM_xxx]
GO

/****** Object: UserDefinedFunction [dbo].[fnSetupFullVersion] Script Date: 21.05.2024 10:03:31 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[fnSetupFullVersion]() RETURNS NVARCHAR(32) with SCHEMABINDING AS BEGIN RETURN N'5.00.9122.1000' END
GO

but there is no guarantee that this will work for you.
