Hi all,

My first post! OK, I won't bore you with details, but I am badly overwhelmed and the environment here is poor. I try my best. Back in 2013, I contracted the installation and building of SCCM to help me in my daily tech life. I licensed SCCM and all the necessary client connections to it AND I purchased "Software Assurance".

I run SCCM 2012, and attached is a screenshot of the version. It's original. Never been updated/upgraded/etc... Excuse the foolishness of this question, but can I upgrade this at all? If so, to what? IIRC, R2 came out mere months after my purchase years ago. I never did anything back then.

I know that all sounds silly... I posted my "Intro" in the other forum, but in short, I am a one-man show for a small town in MA. I'm overwhelmed and have never once had an opportunity to truly dive into and learn this very expensive system I have. I'll be asking a lot of questions, most of them stupid, in the coming weeks/months.

Thanks!

CB

According to that version, you are on SCCM 2012 SP1.

As you have SP1 it means you can upgrade to Current Branch.
Also if you have Software Assurance there is no license issue at all.

This guide describes the upgrade process in detail.
Also note that you can upgrade directly to 1606 because that's the latest Base media. And from there go directly to 1610.
No need to upgrade to 1511 first. (that used to be the case until the 1606 Base media was released).
-> You can download the base media from the Volume Licensing portal.

Also, what SQL Server version are you using?

The upgrade to SCCM 1606 was no problem. However, I failed the prerequisite check because I needed at least SP3 of my SQL Server version.

Please take my advise and do the TestDBUpgrade before doing the actuall upgrade to check whether your DB can be upgraded.
DO NOT DO IT ON YOUR PRODUCTION SERVER.
Copy a SQL backup to a new separate server to do the TestDBUpgrade because oafter the test the DB will be useless.
