Greetings,
Running Config Mgr 2103 and had gotten Hardware Inventory working for AD computers and non-domain computers as well as Macs.
However, it seems that slowly over the last month or so, the hardware inventory has gradually stopped working on almost all computers.

I found this pertinent info in the CMTrace logs:
Code:
2022-04-12 14:17:58 10.10.0.95 BITS_POST /CCM_Incoming/{FCF36D68-8DE5-4621-B7D4-7642A2B914F1} (bits_error:{37BF8981-31A1-4DDA-A61A-D30555BA6D4C},403,0x80070005) 443 MYDOMAIN\COMPUTER-3$ 10.10.0.197 Microsoft+BITS/7.5 - 403 0 0 1546 54

After extensive Googling, and making sure all permissions were set (making sure IUSR has full permissions on the CCM_Incoming directory), I still got the error.

Tried reinstalling the Management Point role as well as BITS, but that broke everything, so I had to revert to a VM snapshot. Interestingly enough, once I was able to get the VM working again (after having to reset the SCCM VM's AD Computer Password via the Domain Controller,) the BITS_POSTs were coming in normally again for about 12 hours. Eventually, though, the bits errors returned.

One thing that I noticed, but I'm not sure it's pertinent, is that I checked the permissions in the CCM_Incoming directories where the uploads were working. I noticed that where they were working, the permissions on the directory had special permissions for the computer, displayed as follows: COMPUTER$ (DOMAIN\COMPUTER$). I then re-checked those same permissions this morning where the uploads had begun to fail and saw that the permissions were slightly different and the computer name was listed as simply: COMPUTER$
Note that the domain and computer name were no longer listed. Again, not sure it means anything, but seems worth mentioning.

Not sure where to go at this point, hopefully someone has some insight on this.

Thanks for your help, whoever you may be!
