PENDING Permanent "success" error code (0x0 error code) for successfully installed application via SCCM

Hello All!

Why is an error displayed in the monitoring tab of SCCM during deployment even though the application is installed and the error has a "success" error code (0x0 error code). Those errors affect online machines as well and haven't change for all weeks. After some time few machine went to green compliant status, but dozens are still successfully "failed".

Despite of error code, apps are installed on machines and work fine. I have tried reset policies, reinstalling SCCM agents and all standard troubleshooting. There are no failed components or sites errors in SCCM.

Furthermore, SCCM packages and software updates like Cumulative, Offices etc. are being reported fine. There is problem with apps only, almost most of created ones.

Thanks for you reply, we are using .msi installers but problem occurs for multiple applications like Adobe Reader, Google Chrome etc. All of them are created as on screenshots attached and main installation command is based on install.cmd file.

I suspect this might be an issue relating to 2309 specifically, in our org we have around 20 pieces of software which have been packaged for a long time with no issues and out of roughly 4000 deployments over 1000 are in "error" despite showing "already compliant" or "success" in the error tab.

EDIT: I'm logging a call with Microsoft today for this, so if they provide any useful solutions, I'll share this here.

Microsoft have confirmed there is a known issue with v2309 affecting multiple customers, it's been logged with the development team for a hotfix to be applied however there is currently no time frame on it. They have verified it is only visual on the console, reports however show it accurately for each software.

Olá, também estou com esse problema, porém para instalações via central de software meu aplicativo funciona bem em outros dispositivos, mas no meu atual ele não instala, causando o erro 0x0(0)
 
It looks like the majority of the issue is rectified by upgrading to 2403, there are still 1 or 2 instances of an error that is "0x0 success" but it is nowhere near the same as before.
 
Hi, did anyone have solution for this? I'm just training atm and get this error.

We're about to upgrade to 2503, and will see if that sorts it (doubtful), also although we are transitioning to Intune and modern managed Windows 11, we are seeing the same behaviours with Intune application deployments as well, 0x0 is becoming the bane of my life

Monitoring this to see if upgrading helped. 0x0 is sucking time away.
 
I had this issue recently on v2409. Here's what fixed it for me:

1 out of my 34 collection members was showing this error "0x0 (0): Success" for an application I deployed last week.
I fixed it by changing my detection rule from "Version Equals" to "Version Greater than or equal to".
Not sure why it was necessary - all devices had installed the same version, but this one device was acting up on the original setting.

This happens to me from time to time as well. If it’s a small number of devices, I’ll usually spot-check a few to make sure the app installed correctly. I’ve never seen a case where the app didn’t actually install—it’s always been a very low count, which I consider a success.

There are a few quick ways to verify that the app was installed properly, and when possible, I enable verbose logging for MSIs and EXEs to help with any troubleshooting. In my experience, this seems more like a reporting issue than an actual installation failure.
