I have a Server 2012 R2 server that's not domain joined which is used for remote access management.
I have managed to install the SCCM client and I can see MP which is correct. In sccm I can see the heartbeat. I believe the issue is to do with permissions of the sccm server sending files to this server.
On the sccm box if I try to connect to this server through windows explorer it asks for credentials. On the server if I connect to the sccm box it will go through.

Anything obvious I'm missing. I'm not sure what log I need to check to help me resolve.

The server isn't getting files for updates in the ccmcache folder but its feeding back to the sccm box as far as I can tell. I have a feeling its a permissions issue.
What log file would best show this so I can confirm and how does permissions on a non domain join box work? All my SCCM accounts are domain accounts

Before you install SCCM client agent on workgroup computer, you must know the following things.
  • The workgroup system should be able to resolve the FQDN of management point.
  • During client installation, logged-on user must have local administrator rights on the workgroup computer.
  • Configure network access account prior to installing client agent.
  • Adding entries of distribution point and management point in hosts file of workgroup computer should help.
  • Most of all Client push installation is not possible.
  • Ensure ports requirements are met using this guide.
