Hi There,
We are moving our server patching to a new product and as part of this we have to remove the patching source from the registry. So I have a few questions and concerns.
1. Is the SCCM client responisble for setting the Update source on machines?
2. If so where do we set this?
3. I want to Keep the servers in SCCM for pushing software and Inventory etc so removing the client or removing the server OU's from the Discovery source isn't an option.
4. We have our desktop/Laptop estate still patching through and we dont want to disrupt this.

Anyone done this before? So far I have been searching multiple threads but so far haven't came up with any sort of answer.

Thanks for your time.
Andy

1. YES will Not directly set the Reg key. So...
2. n/a
3. Create a collection for all computer that you want to deploy SU too. Create a Client policy to enable SU scan. Deploy the policy to the collection. remove the policy setting from the default policy
4. ok.

Thanks for the reply Garth much appreciated.

The new service we are using for Updates has told us we need to remove the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate settings that have been created by the SCCM client.

So best to have a "Server" and "Desktop" Client setting and in the "Server" policy leave Software Updates unchecked?

Sounds so simple now. Been bugging me for a while now.

Thank you.

for #1, I just double check and CM will set that Regkey.
#2, you don't set it, SCCM will set it automatically.
#3 is still the same answer.
