SOLVED Question about operating system

Hey, I'm a noob to the world of IT and I'm building a PC but I need an operating system. I could get Windows 10 for 100 bucks, but my college offers it for free. The complication is that it looks to be a product key download, but I don't think I'll be able to use the internet without an operating system in the first place. Any Insights?
(Also I'm guessing I couldn't just download the software on a flashdrive and plug that in the new computer could I?)

You can download the Windows 10 ISO file and use Windows USB/DVD Download Tool to make your USB bootable. Yes you will need internet connectivity to download the Windows 10 ISO and activate it.

Isn't it free to download or install Windows 10? Microsoft provides Windows creation media and does not charge any fees. Am I mistaken?

Another free way to install Windows 10,make a Windows install disk(Rufus and Imgburn can be do that) to install a Windows 10 on computer.
