PENDING Management Point and State Migration Point suddenly not working

The management point and state migration points on a client's primary site server have stopped running properly and are marked as critical. The error message for the management point role is as per below:

MP Control Manager detected management point is not responding to HTTP requests. The HTTP status code and text is 404, Not Found.

The error for the State Migration Point role is as per below:

SMP Control Manager detected SMP is not responding to HTTP requests. The http status code and text is 404, Not Found.

I have tried removing and re-adding the maintenance and state migration roles (rebooting the server after the removal and rebooting after re-adding) without any success. Please help as I am going insane.

Did you also uninstalled and installed MP role ?.

Yes I have. I uninstalled the Management Point role, rebooted the server, re-installed the Management Point with the exact same settings and rebooted the server before monitoring the server to see if the issue was fixed. I monitored the mpsetup.log and mpmsi.log files to confirm the successful uninstall and re-install of the Management Point role before each restart.

I have had it suggested that I should remove and re-add IIS but I am concerned in doing this I will break other roles - what is the best way to do this?
