Hi All,

I want to understand the difference between client local time and UTC. I have read some information on the internet but its confusing me a lot. When to use client local time and when to use UTC ?.

-Harshit.

Hi Harshit,

There is no time configured in SCCM as of now.. Main difference between both is

1) If you wanted the software to be installed on the computers in all the time zones at once then enable UTC. ..

2) deployment of any software, Microsoft update that will deploy on bases on the current timming (loca timmings)

For an eample ; If you deploy software update let's say 17:00 PM, local time , then it should be taking that time only and after 17:01 PM it will start deploying and update.

But if you enable UTC, then it will not wait till 17:00 PM and what ever the current time as per region it will select and deploy to all targeted machine.

Thanks

If you use UTC then all the machines would kick off at the exact same time. If you say 8PM UTC then no matter what time zone or what time is on the client it will kick off when it is 8pm UTC. If you set it for Client local time then the deployment is depending on the local machine time. For a global company you can set it for client local time and thus the deployment will follow the sun.
