Hey all,

Looking for some guidance on an behavior change regarding the application approval process. Eager to make use the feature to receive email notifications for application approval requests, I upgraded to 1810 and enabled the "Approve application requests for users per device", and configured the SMTP.

Now when I approve a pending application requests, the application install immediately kicks off on the clients PC, which was not the behavior before enabling this feature. Before, After the user received notification that their request was approved they would launch Software Center and kick off the install at their convenience. Now I have applications kicking off their installs as soon as I approve when the user isn't expecting it.

I had an incident this morning, where a new user had a hardware refresh, went into software center and submitted approval for 4 applications, and had all 4 installs kick off in quick secession. Not an ideal user experience

I've confirmed the application deployment setting set to "Available" so there is no deadline set...I have a daily All Deployments maintenance window from 7PM to 5AM. I've tried recreating blowing away and recreating the application. No change in behavior.

Is this an intended behavior change? Anyone have any insight on how to prevent the application to auto install after approval?

Now when I approve a pending application requests, the application install immediately kicks off on the clients PC, which was not the behavior before enabling this feature - Yes, the moment you approve the request, the installation begins on user computer. I had reported this to MS product team and I had the same concern as yours. Ideally when the application request is approved, the user should only get a notification about the approval. The requester can then install the app whenever he/she wants.

I will have pass this as a feedback to the team.

Thanks for the reply Prajwal. At least I know it's not a incorrect application deployment config on my part.

I would definitely agree, if an application is deployed as an Available app, it should be up to the user to initiate the install on their terms. Otherwise it blurs the line between an "Available" app and a "required" app.

Thanks again.
