In my organization we use ADR Rules for monthly software patching and have been doing so for the last 2-3 years. I noticed for the Month of February 2024 that there has been no updates pushed. I see not errors for the ADR for Windows 10 updates in the console. However when I check show members in the deployment packages for it shows only the pervious month of updates dating back to patch tues on Jan 9, 2024. How my ADR are setup from the beginning is to check and download 2 days later on that thurs which was the last time it downloaded any updates which was Jan 11, 2024.

I did try recreating a test ADR rule with the same outcome figuring it was an issue with the ADR that we have been using for quite sometime.

I have checked the ruleengine.log file and there are a couple of errors which when i look up online there is not alot of information out there. Very general. Here is one of the errors CRuleHandler::CreateFailureAlert - Alert ID = 16777448 SMS_RULE_ENGINE 3/1/2024 10:03:20 AM 10100 (0x2774)

I have attached a screenshot of the ruleengine.log file for your viewing. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i need to get this patches applied for the month of Feb.

Thank you,

Craig

In the screenshot, I see no "The rules resulted in not updates being found. Skip deployment creation or update."
So your ADR is running correctly as per the schedule, but it's not grouping any new updates for deployment.

Hi Prajwal,

Thanks for your response. Any idea where i should go next to try and figure out why its not working. I am new to the updates and ADR in SCCM. It was setup by a former employee.

It was working up until last month but for some reason something has changed. I did upgrade the configuration manager client on Jan 15 which was after patch tues on that month and that was the last month it worked. The current version of the configuration manager console is 2309.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Prajwal,,

I wanted to attach a screenshot of the SUG created by ADR's. As you can see there is not one for Feb 2024.

Thanks,

Craig

Check you ARD rules, Manually run them and see the results.

Hello Garth,

Tried to run manually a few times with the same outcome. Reading online someone suggested it maybe a SQL deadlock. Any suggestions?

I may have to create the critical updates and patches for Feb manually for now outside of the ADR Rules for the time being.

Any other suggestions you may have that i can check or certain logs other than the ruleengine.log that maybe more descriptive.

Thanks,

Craig

If it is the same outcome when running it manually. Then it is likely your rules need to be updated. I would start by review your rules.

Edit the ADR and use the preview feature to see if the Feb month updates are listed. If they aren't listing, I would recommend creating a new ADR with the same configuration/settings and check if that works. There are no errors with ADR so it has to do with the rules in your case.

Hi Garth,

Here is another error I found in the SUPSetup.log dating Jan 15 which was when i updated the configuration management console.

CTool::RegisterManagedBinary: Failed to register C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\x64\wsusmsp.dll with .Net Fx 2.0

Please see attached screenshotSUPSetupLog.png

No, I do not believe that error is related to the issue you mentioned. What you need to do now is see if the ADR is listing new updates.

Thank you i will try your suggestion. I just have to figure out how to modify the ADR using the preview. Any tips would be greatly appreiated.

Hi Prajwald,

I did try this before. However I did recreate another ADR following your steps in the link you sent me. I forced a run on that ADR Called ADR - Windows Updates - Windows 10 (Test).

I waited a little and then i checked the ruleengine.log and have the same outcome. Please see screenshot:

ruleenginelog.png

I then opened the deployment package called ADR - Windows Updates - Windows 10 (Test) and show member however there are no members\updates in there. Please see attached.

Here is my ADR that i created just for clarification.

I then checked the software center on one of the systems that is in the device collection that the ADR is applied the updates to and there are none.

Is there any other troubleshooting steps i can take to see what the issue is with regards to log files or any other reason why the ADR rule is not propagating the patches.

Someone mentioned in a post about a SQL Deadlock could cause this as well. Any idea if this could be the case and if so how would i troubleshoot it.

Any other suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Prajwald,,

I did manage to figure out a fix for this issue. ON all software updates I forced a Synchronize Software Updates. Once completed I could see the patches for Feb and i manually ran the ADR Rules which then created the SUG. I have the test group set for this evening and then the rest in the coming days.

Thank you for all of your help and sugguestions. Keeping my fingers crossed the updates will run tonight on the test group.

Hi there,

I just came across your post. We're currently experiencing a similar issue. We have two ADRs—one for workstations and one for servers. Our server ADR is not showing updates in Software Center. We’ve tested it, and the ADR appears to be working correctly.

I was wondering what additional steps you took to get yours working?

Thanks in advance!
