If we move to comanagement and intune to deploy apps on our sccm builds, will software inventory still work within sccm?

Do you really mean Hardware Inventory? e.g. what is listed within Add Remove Programs? If so yes, it will still work.

yeah thats correct whats listed in add/remove programs.

I thought that was called software inventory and hardware inventory was details about the device spec etc.

No SW inv does not give you what is listed within ARP.

HW inv gives you that. Hence one of the reason why HW inv should be set to daily, whereas SW inv should be turn off or set to every 14+ days.
