Good afternoon all,

All of our ADRs have been failing for some time now. The error code that appears is "0X80070050 The File Exists". Ruleengine.log shows the errors in the screenshots below.

If anyone can provide any insight on how to correct this, it would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what additional information I can provide.

Error 80 = "the file exists"
Error 0x80070050 = "The file exists."

So... Does it?

This error seems to occur regardless of whether there are files or not. I've recreated both ADRs and Deployment packages from scratch and still receive the same message. Is there a directory I am missing that maybe is interrupting the process?

We also encountered this issue this month. In our case, the problem was that the %windir%\temp folder had > 65k files in it. After cleaning out the folder, the ADR then completed without issue.

Although, we are not seeing the new January Office 365 client updates yet--anyone else seeing that? Our EP and Windows updates all came through normally after completing the Temp cleanup.

Thanks for the tip! I see we have right around 65K files in there too. Did you clear all the files from the folder or specific ones?

We had exactly this issue. same problem. (Thanks for this fix!) Looks like when the ADR Runs on the Primary Site server is is not deleting the file completely and leaving a 0KB file behind in the temp directory. There must be a 65K limit on available filenames or something causing this error msg.

Just a quick PSA: I noticed that the temp files were still accruing, and this actually caused one of our ADRs to fail again this month. That made me check the latest update rollup, which does indeed fix the issue.

Processing of Automatic Deployment Rules fails after updating to Configuration Manager version 2010. The Last Error Description reads "Auto Deployment Rule download failed". This occurs due to zero-byte temporary files left in the Windows\Temp folder during the download process.
I applied the rollup earlier this week and the issue appears to be corrected.
