KB5043178 Cumulative update for Windows 11 (OS Build 26100.1882)

KB5043178 is the new preview update released for Windows 11 on September 30, 2024 and updates the OS Build to 26100.1882. It's a preview update, and you may skip this update if you wish to install the next upcoming stable update. The previous preview update for Windows 11 was KB5043168.

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack KB5043117 , which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

The KB5043178 update appears immediately after you upgrade to Windows 11 24H2. In our case, we successfully upgraded from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2 using the installation assistant.

KB5043178 New Features​

Below is a summary of the new features you get when you install KB5043178.

1. This update has a new energy recommendation that informs the users to turn off high dynamic range (HDR). With this, it helps to conserve energy on devices that have HDR displays. To see this recommendation, go to Settings > Power & battery > Energy recommendations.
2. KB5043178 brings a new feature where if your device's battery power is running low, a pop-up window will appear that asks you to plug in your device. When the Energy Saver is configured to Always On and the battery level reaches 20%, the pop-up displays. This is a very useful feature for laptops running Windows 11.
3. The Sign-out option is now on the account manager when you open the Start menu. To change to a different user, select the ellipses (...). A list of other users appears to make it easier to switch.
4. You can now share local files directly from the search results that appear in the Search box on the taskbar.
5. Media controls now show in the lower part of the lock screen at its center when media is playing.
6. This update adds the option to turn off enhanced mouse pointer precision to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mouse. There is also a new option to change the direction in which the mouse scrolls.

KB5043178 Improvements​

Below is a list of improvements that can be observed when you install KB5043178.

1. The KB5043178 update adds attributions to credits.txt files for Rust OSS components.
2. When a combo box has input focus, a memory leak might occur when you close that window.
3. [WebView2 apps] They do not detect input from Xbox 360 and Bluetooth controllers.
4. The KB5043178 resolves the issue where the task manager settings page displays a white background, making it difficult to read the text. It stops responding when you switch from a high contrast theme to a normal theme.

Known Issues​

Microsoft says that there is a known bug in the Windows 11 KB5043178 update that prevents players on Arm devices from downloading and playing Roblox through the Microsoft Store on Windows. Microsoft may fix this bug in a future update, but in the interim, they recommend that players on Arm devices play Roblox by downloading the game directly from the main website.
